Celebrating with Toy-Kraft

Come February and India’s smallest state comes alive for 3 days in a literal joyful expression of song and dance.

This year at Toy-Kraft we plan to celebrate our vast diverse heritage and revive our culture with our children…

Our country is a remarkable kaleidoscope of divergent faiths and colourful states each celebrating their history and heritage.

Held in mid February for 3 days and 3 nights, the Goa Carnival is a lively display of Latin processions, floats, songs, graceful dances and non-stop festivity.

This fest is exclusive to Goa and not celebrated anywhere else in the country. The ‘Carnival’ was introduced by the Portuguese, who ruled Goa for over five hundred years. The word Carnival (Carnival in Portuguese) is derived from a Latin word meaning- ‘to take away meat’ and it is an expression of the 40-day period of fasting for Lent, during which, abstinence from meat is compulsory.

The highlight of the Carnival is that it is presided by a legendary king, King Momo who orders his subjects to party! So the Carnival kicks off with King Momo who is followed by his subjects in traditional carnival costumes strumming on guitars and dancing on Latin dance forms.

The Carnival is a huge tourist event in Goa and huge parades are organised across the state. Grand balls are held in the evenings and includes the famous red and black dance which is organised by the Club National in Panaji on the final day.

This year the Carnival will be held during February 6-9 2016.

Do watch this dazzling video and make sure you celebrate the spirit of King Momo wherever you are….
